Boys & Girls Clubs of Venice

Boys & Girls Clubs of Venice is one of 4,300 Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide. Their mission is "to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” The Rose plans to provide career launch programs and summer programming for kids and teens of BCGV in 2016.

CR Stecyk

Stecyk, who was born, raised and still resides in Venice, is an influential multihyphenate in the area’s surf and skateboard scene. In the ’70s and ’80s, he wrote about and photographed skate culture; he created graphics for the Zephyrs and the Bones Brigade, the skate crew whose roster included then-unknowns like Tony Hawk and Rodney Mullen. Stecyk, who began frequenting The Rose soon after it opened in 1979, covered its walls with a combination of bright 14-by-22-inch posters and imagery from the neighborhood, like photographs of the late skateboarder Jay Adams and of a Pacific Electric grid car. He also ground local soil into pigments that can be used in silk-screens and letterpresses.

Hedley & Bennett

Owner of Hedley & Bennet, Ellen Bennett started her career in some of LA’s best kitchens, eventually breaking away to provide colorful apron alternatives for chefs. Hedley & Bennett is local to LA and provides an inventive approach to kitchen classics. #TheApronSquad created three custom aprons pulling from colors in the spaces (fun fact: Jason was one of Ellen Bennett’s first customers when he opened Superba)

John Mooney // Moonlight Glass

In 1996 after living in Venice for 10 years, John Mooney founded Moonlight Glass in a shop space next on Hampton Drive in Venice, CA. Since he turned his glass furnace on in 1999, he has focused on improving his craft and exploring new ideas in glass, selling creations in stores and galleries in California and Colorado. The Rose commissioned Mooney to create one-of-a-kind wine decanters.

Patrick Johnston // Hot Soup Ceramics

Patrick special made all of the Rose’s plates, bowls, and vases. Patrick Johnston knew at the age of six, that ceramics would be his life. Currently Johnston is the artist in residence at the Temple of Mediclaytion, Venice California.
